Manijeh Badiozamani takes us to her childhood home—her grandfather’s house—near the Big Bazaar in Tehran, the teeming capital of Iran. Growing up between the traditional and the modern, she recreates the Tehran of the1940s and 1950s before she immigrated to the U.S. We meet her quirky family and friends and discover the impact they had on her life. The stories are laced with humor and, sometimes, sadness. After 40 years, when she returns to Tehran to care for her aging mother, the spotlight is on the cultural differences and the universal problems of aging.
How do you chronicle a life? Manijeh Badiozamani tells of her life in a series of short stories that offer glimpses of a life lived in two cultures, rich in friends, ventures, and love.
“This collection of invariably amusing and often heartwarming experiences is like a treasure chest one discovers and opens, and invariably finds a rare gem here or a small trinket there. But the discoveries are always rewarding. The stories range over time and are often told with a gentle irony that will both amuse and enlighten. Each story stands alone, but together they describe a life’s journey full of perception, empathy, and great humor.”
—Dr. Mark David Welton, Professor Emeritus, United States Military Academy at West Point.
In 1961 a 17-year-old Iranian girl, was a high school exchange student in Ohio. During that year, she wrote many letters on Aerograms to her family in Tehran. Years later, she discovered that her father had saved every letter.
Now 60 years later, she shares these letters with all the cultural shocks, school challenges, and community victories that tell the story of life in small town 1960s America from the perspective of a teenager from the other side of the globe.
In her book, Angel Melodies: A Little Guide to Winning at Life & Love at Any Stage of the Game, Francesca Bellamore classifies many people as first-class angels by their ability to look at people through the eyes of love, reach out to people in love, lavish people with love, and transform the lives of people around them by their love. Winning at life and love doesn’t necessarily mean having a great marriage, being in a romantic relationship, having the perfect body, or being rich and famous. Striving to be a first-class angel to at least one person, a spouse, a child, a neighbor, or even someone whose wing brushes up against yours for only a moment is what makes you a winner at life and love. Angel Melodies will open up the playing field for you.
A Glimmer of Hope is the story of Rochelle Berman and her family’s journey to raise a special needs child. Their second son, Eric, was born with spina bifida. After his birth, and the surprise of him being a special child, the family realized they had been chosen to go on this incredible journey.
“Not all families find this challenging time in their lives to be rewarding, but raising a special needs child will change you forever,” she said. “Never give up! You can do anything you put your mind to do. I know, I’ve been there.”
The family’s journey was determined by the love, empathy, encouragement, consolations, and dogged-determination to succeed that came with loving Eric.
Today, he is a successful professional after graduating with a degree in psychology and a master’s in social work. He is an inspiration to the countless families and individuals whom he has counseled over the past years.
“He has been a miracle to us,” Rochelle said. “I wanted to tell his story. He has changed all our lives for the better.”
This is the story about some of what they experienced and how they succeeded .

“December 31, 1942 – Our first air raid. Our guns fired and we claimed one plane. This was one of the greatest thrills of my life.” From the journal of PFC Alton Haight.
Periods of heart-stopping intensity were followed by long periods of monotony, periods of relentless rain by bouts of intensive heat, and a war that a young soldier believed would be over within months would consume over 2 1/2 years of his life.
One Soldier’s War will take you on one soldier’s WWII journey from North Africa to Italy and then into France and Germany as Allied troops battled Hitler’s army in a bloody war to save the world from the reign of a madman.
PFC Haight’s journal entries are supported by pictures and historical background details to introduce the reader to the world as he saw it. His story is every WWII soldier’s story and one that deserves to be read.
Audacious Goals, Remarkable Results
Audacious Goals, Remarkable Results
How an Explorer, an Engineer, and a Statesman shaped our modern world
by Brad Borkan and David Hirzel
Six incredible endeavors and the three unstoppable people who made them happen. The book profiles six examples of the mighty human spirit, such as the building of the Panama Canal, the Great Western Railway and the quest for the South Pole, showing us how people like the explorer Roald Amundsen, the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and the cowboy-turned-statesman Theodore Roosevelt created lasting achievements over 100 years ago that even today influence our lives. And they did this when others were saying, “It can’t be done!” Our book has been endorsed by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, the world’s greatest living explorer: “Audacious Goals, Remarkable Results is a deeply fascinating book. I found it gripping, exhilarating and inspiring.”
Belief, superstition, and conspiracy… Where did they come from? This book explains everything. How did our species evolve from stone axe chippers living in dank caves to the architects of artificial intelligence living in air-conditioned high-rise penthouses?
As author Jim Bucko explains, our tool-making capability seems to have preceded and then paralleled other developments in human language, art, ritual behavior, and reasoning which have led us to today, and set us up for great leaps ahead tomorrow.
Written in terms everyone can understand, this is a wonderous journey of discovery about the evolution of our brain and why we have developed mental abilities including religious beliefs, conspiracy theories, and superstitions. It’s a very readable explanation of why we think the way we do.
I was a career police officer and wanted to capture in print many of the experiences which appear in my mind’s eye today as vividly as when they took place.
Life in the 1960s and early 1970s came with plenty of its own challenges. How I handled growing up in a small town was one. Being handicapped early in life and learning to overcome it was another. Then my life started heading in a completely different direction. Except for a few good people in my life, I wouldn’t be the same person I am today..
All accounts of my life are factual. Only the names of people have been fictionalized for privacy. Funny thing, though, if anyone really knows me and reads this book, they will immediately identify all the people involved.
If you do recognize anything, please don’t say you know me.
For decades Rev. Steve Burt wrote stories for Christmas Candlelight Services and magazines reprinted them.
In 1999 he took the clippings and started a read-aloud program for nursing homes and senior centers. Audiences laughed and cried. They asked for a book they could both use and give. Thus, A Christmas Dozen was born. On release day, a Connecticut radio station had Dr. Burt read stories on-air for four hours. A Christmas Dozen is available as a Kindle e-book and as an Audible audio-book, but the paperback just went out of print.
So here’s the new paperback: Christmas Soup for the Soul, an award-winning collection of the Top 10 favorites according to readers. Enjoy. Savor. And share.
There are no magic formulas for success, but there’s a template anyone can follow—commitment, hard work, belief, attitude, practice, preparation. You get the picture. Success takes whatever it takes.
Discover Kaizen Expert Casel Burnett’s transformative approach here in No Regrets…, where he sharessimple but striking lessons for continuous improvement toward achieving your goals, however difficult they may be. Whoever you are, you can use any of the core principles found in this book.
Through his father’s dozen-word mantra——“You can achieve anything if you set your mind to it”—a wisdom wrought from being a lifelong master mechanic, Burnett hammers a mindset deep within his psyche that helped him ascend the corporate ladder, eventually becoming a manufacturing executive at a prominent automotive company. Make no mistake, however. This book isn’t a celebration of personal achievements but rather a testament to the power of continuous learning, unwavering belief, and sheer perseverance.

Jane Ross Noakes was a mother of eight who had a busy life, then went through a divorce after a thirty-year marriage. She went back to college and graduated at age 56, then spent the next eleven years in geriatric social work counseling. She also had a ministry for years and wrote sermonettes in letters to her members.
Throughout her life, she was a prolific writer of short stories, poems, and letters to her children and others. After she passed in 2002, her children could not stop reading and thinking about her words, stories, encouragements, and sweet sentiments which had comforted and guided them over the years.
Finally, one daughter decided to compile her writings into a published book because “her words were too beautiful to be forgotten.”
If you are looking for warm words reminiscent of yesteryear, filled with love and encouragement, this book will be a delight. Her short stories and images of old-fashioned Christmases in bygone days, her poems, and letters will lift your spirit and envelope you in a feeling of quiet strength, support, and knowing that, in the end, all will be well.

What intrigued me to write this biography about my Mom’s long life? Because, she lived life her way, overcoming adversity and persevered through many hardships, constantly striving to live a long, healthy life in order to reach her goal of centenarian at 100 years of age. A year before her passing at 101 years old, mom was active and lucid. I felt that it was time to interview her and record everything about her life from her birth in 1902 through to her last days in the assisted living facility in 2004. She truly is an inspiration to all who want to reach the status of centenarian and acquire the roadmap of life. Her motto was: think positive, eat healthy, and have fun all the way to 101.

A Life of Extremes
Overcoming Mental Illness then Biking Across America at age 60

This is one woman’s journey through mental illness to wholeness. Starting in her teens with anorexia nervosa and hospitalization for an eating disorder, she endured forty hospitalizations in psychiatric units over twenty years of her life.
Diagnosed with multiple personality disorder, depression, and Post Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD), she was given a grim prognosis for ever living and working in the community. She was also warned about being institutionalized for life.
Fortunately, she did not believe those words about her future.
Through her faith, resilience, and the support and help of a few, she beat the odds stacked against her. This recovery from mental illness is a remarkable story of one woman who believed her life was more than the diagnoses they gave her.
Then, in celebration of her 60th birthday, she bicycled nearly 4,000 miles across America. Her story is a triumph after living a true life of extremes.

Growing up near one of the greatest cities on earth had its benefits. While actually being born and raised in New Jersey, I found the lure of New York impossible to ignore. From my earliest years, I traveled into the big city for entertainment. When time came to earn a living, there was only one place to go.
From my first job at Columbia Pictures, I eventually migrated to F. Schumacher & Co., renowned for selling their famous Waverly fabrics to the high-class carriage trade for over a century. Later, I worked at Bloomingdales’s in New Jersey where I saw many celebrities shopping.
But the city offered more in culture, amusement, and entertainment beyond even one’s wildest expectations.
This is an account of my life crossing over the border into my New York life.
In Unbound, Josie Flood writes her memoir in a raw, unflinching manner which looks into the heart of a childhood filled with abuse and turnover. From the innocence of a life on a rural New Jersey farm, to the harsh realities of the South, this powerful true story unfolds the panorama of a life shattered by trauma and instability.
She tells of an early life where dark secrets within her family consume any happy, idyllic times of farm living. Then through a move from New Jersey to Kentucky, this memoir captures the constant shifts from one place to another, resulting in frequent relocations and the harsh realities of life.
But the author’s resilience and fierce will to survive is apparent in the telling of her tale. Unbound reveals Josie’s fight against abuse, the depth of legal battles and personal loss. Through all the hurt, Unbound is also a story of triumph – finding one’s voice and breaking free of silence to reclaim one’s self. It is a deeply personal account of overcoming adversity with a universal message for anyone who has faced – or is facing – a battle of their own that there is hope for a better life ahead.

Silent Heroes is an action-packed, Vietnam War story by retired U. S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Rick Greenberg, who served in an elite Reconnaissance Battalion in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970.
Greenberg joined the Corps right out of high school because he always wanted to be a Marine. Little did he know what it would ultimately cost him to even approach earning such a title. After boot camp, “Greeny,” as he was later known by his Recon team buddies, attended radio communication school in San Diego, CA. As a radio operator, upon arrival in Vietnam, Greenberg was both surprised and troubled when he was arbitrarily assigned to the First Recon Battalion, generally considered to be an elite unit, and normally manned by volunteers. He soon learns he must adapt quickly, or risk going home in a body bag!
The battle scenes Greenberg masterfully draws in Silent Heroes are both realistic and gripping. They can easily send cold chills down the spines of combat veterans, and dispel any false notions or glorified myths held by non-combatants.
A GREAT read that tells it like it was regarding the brave warriors who fought, and some who died, in the Vietnam war!
Desert Burning is an action-packed story skillfully told by retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Rick Greenberg.

Following a major life tragedy, Greenberg rejoins the Marine Corps. Coming up through the ranks at a time when the Corps was lacking equipment and a readiness for war.
Corporal Greenberg’s first task is to deal with a squad of mutinous Marines.
When Staff Sergeant Greenberg finds he will be Engineer Support Company’s lead convoy commander in the upcoming invasion of Kuwait, he wonders if he’ll survive.
When the desert is set ablaze, no one knows Saddam Hussain’s next move.
The scenes Greenberg masterfully draws in Desert Burning are both realistic and gripping. They will easily have you ducking for cover as the bombs explode.
Desert Burning is a great read telling about America’s first desert war since 1943. Learn the true story of Operation Desert Storm through the eyes of an enlisted marine who saw it all.
This is a true story about Rick Greenberg’s life experience.
On a weekend trip to a Vietnam Reunion, Rick, his wife, Cindy, and friends suffer a tragic accident. Somehow, Rick survives, but barely. Medical personal said he probably would not live and if he did, he would be a vegetable.
Miraculously, Rick defied the odds and came out of a thirty-day coma. His family, and medical staff view his survival as a miracle.
Faith in a Box offers a glimpse into the life of a man who faces an uncertain and grueling recovery while struggling emotionally, trying to regain a life he once had. The story is encouraging, hopeful and inspiring to those recuperating from serious injuries, and those dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Four weeks later, Maggie died suddenly, leaving behind a devastated family and a group of heartbroken players. Despite their tragic loss, friends, family, and team members took comfort in knowing that the values Maggie instilled in themselves and others would live on.

BASEBALL IS THE GREATEST JOB IN THE WORLD!
From the very first chapter to the very end, this enjoyable chronicle about the early 1950s, looks behind the scenes at events in the clubhouse, dugout, and on the field as seen through the eyes of a visiting team batboy. He was able to see everything whenever the Washington Senators played at Griffith Stadium.
Back then, baseball was very different from today. Players were more fun and more colorful. Most would give a fan a free autograph with a kindly smile. You’ll find out what it was like for a kid to rub elbows with Hall of Famers and other great stars.
You’ll read about a young and somewhat shy Mickey Mantle, who hit that tape-measure home run out of Griffith Stadium on April 17, 1953; about Satchel Paige’s pitching prowess and his on-and off-field antics; and get a first-hand look at the Ted Williams that few people got to see. And much more!
Travel to Cooperstown with the author and his wife, Darlene, some three decades later in the former batboy’s life, for a meeting with the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s curator and learn about that meeting’s most surprising ending. In this book you’ll find scores of interesting stories about unforgettable moments in the game, and see what the batboy saw as he mingled with legendary players of the 1950s a time that may well go down as the greatest in American baseball history!

Two Centuries of Deception, Cheating, Gambling & Doping in America's National Game
by Jack L. Hayes
This book sets the record straight! Award-winning baseball author Jack L. Hayes lays out the facts to prove that the history of America's National Pastime is riddled with mistakes, half-truths, and outright lies. And it's all part of what makes baseball America's national game. Five Baseball myths you probably believe: Abner Doubleday invented baseball. No, he didn't. Alexander Cartwright is the "Father of Baseball. Wrong! The first baseball game was played at Cooperstown, NY? Wrong again. Pete Rose deserves to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Well, probably not. Or, Shoeless Joe Jackson threw the 1919 World Series. None of these myths are true. Even Major League Baseball and the Baseball Hall of Fame knows that. Get the facts. Then you can know, too.

The Villages® Community in Florida is well known throughout the country for its excellent senior softball programs, facilities, and opportunities. With nearly 3,000 current players, both men and women, participating on more than 200 various league and travel teams, this location has often been called ‘Senior Softball Heaven.’ This book gives a brief overview of Village softball for the newcomer, while also providing a glimpse into its 25-year history of phenomenal growth – from one field with a few people playing pick-up games to the current programs played on 15 beautiful, well maintained fields. Kincaid has also provided over 130 individual player Bio’s to give the reader an idea of who is playing softball here; their previous backgrounds; and some of their comments on the programs.
From 1985 to 1990 Dan Kincaid’s weekly column, “The Great Outdoors”, appeared in The Marietta (OH) Times newspaper. It focused on hunting and fishing, but also covered various other topics of interest to those who loved the outdoors. Marietta bordered West Virginia, with the Ohio River separating the two states. Many readers lived in the Mountain State as well as Ohio. Thus, the columns covered issues and items from both areas. Come along and re-live those days and topics that were popular over 30 years ago.
Unlike the majority of men, I have long been a fan of musicals, and grew up in an era – the 1950s – where Hollywood musicals were really big time in popularity as well as in making money. Composers like Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and Lerner and Lowe were particular favorites of mine, and why not? Their melodies were beautiful, and the lyrics were timeless or at least fit the setting in which they took place.
I have divided this book into two categories: 1) Musicals that appeared first on the Broadway stage, and after a successful run were eventually made into movies. This includes films like Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, Brigadoon, Guys and Dolls, and many others; and 2) Movie musicals that appeared on the big screen without ever having been on stage first: movies like Singin’ in the Rain, The Band Wagon, The Wizard of Oz, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and all those wonderful films with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers that immediately come to mind. I have also included five Disney animated films from this time period.
This book is a tribute to all those wonderful musicals from the late 1930s through the mid 1960s – the Golden Age of Movie Musicals, as well as the talented stars who sang and danced their way through these films.

Movies of the 1940s and 1950s: Including My Favorite Noir Films and Stars
By Gary Koca
Film noir is a genre of films made in Hollywood in the 1940s and 1950s that have certain stylistic and thematic similarities. Specifically, it includes stories of crime and moral ambiguity shot typically in black and white with contrast lighting (bright lights and dark shadows). Film noir means “black film” in French, but these are not French films. However, the term was coined by French critics, hence the title. German filmmakers like John F. Seitz and Fritz Lang shaped the style by applying the fundamentals of expressionism to the gritty American crime story, including the use of private eyes and gangsters.
In reading this book, you will find that many of the films are easily recognizable, like Double Indemnity, The Maltese Falcon, and Out of the Past. However, I have watched several hidden gems, many of which I saw on TCM’s “Noir Alley.” [1] I hope this book will peak your interest in watching some of these lesser-known movies as well.
Unlike leading men and women, supporting actors and actresses HAD to know how to act.
This book is a tribute to many of the greatest supporting actors of the classic film era in Hollywood – 1930s through 1950s. Again, as in all my books, the 40+ people selected are based on my personal preference. For each of these individuals, I have included some biographical information, including how they got their start in films; my favorite films of each individual; and other interesting notes about the person. Some of the individuals in the book include Claude Rains, Walter Brennan, Thomas Mitchell, Dan Duryea, and Thelma Ritter.
As film expert Leonard Maltin recently stated, “Supporting actors and actresses have always been the backbone of Hollywood.”
Forgotten Movie Stars of the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s provides information on 25 leading motion picture stars of the 1930’s, 40’s, and 50’s who were relatively big stars in their heyday but are virtually unknown today to anyone under the age of 45. Fans of classic films from the Golden Age of Hollywood will have fond memories of these stars.
The book provides a biography, awards received, and a review of 4-8 of the best films of each star. Tyrone Power and Barbara Stanwyck are two of the 25 stars in the book.
In two past books that I have written, I focused on Forgotten Stars of the 1930s through the 1950s; that is, stars who were pretty big movie stars in their time but that most people today would not be familiar with them unless they were fans of classic Hollywood films of that era.
In this book, however, I am concentrating on my favorite 100 movies of the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. I have focused on American films only, with a few British films included. I am especially partial to film noir and mysteries, westerns, musicals, and swashbucklers, and this book contains plenty of those films.

Being Old Isn't What It Used to Be. It's A Whole Lot Better!
The sun on the cover of this book is exploding with energy, color, vitality and purpose. It's animating every corner of the sky around it. Even after this sun recedes beyond the horizon, its brilliant red glow will still adorn the edge of the skyline for a long time to come. That energy, drive, and continual striving is what animates the new 21st century approach to aging. These poems are the story of that new approach.
Too many in the generations before us regarded their senior years as a period of decline. They settled. You don't have to. Let these poems take you on an exciting journey where there are still challenges, joys, and life victories ahead. Come feel what it's like to still love someone passionately even after 50 years of marriage. Come explore the richness and sometimes silliness of life in general and especially family life. Come to the gym with us. Set goals, fight through setbacks, test yourself, redefine yourself, become the You you've always wanted to be. Finally, kick back, board a big white cruise ship and sail with us through the Caribbean and the Panama Canal. Feel the warm Caribbean sun. Really understand and appreciate what it means to be an American. The final two stanzas our of poem, "Sunset Years," sum up:this new approach to aging:
So will you go out
Weak and sorry?
Or will your sunset years
Be a blaze of glory?
For you still decide
Where your future lies.
Be technicolor clouds exploding
Against crimson sunset skies.
Life is still journey in your senior years. Ride along with us and see all this last phase of your life can be.

What If You Love God, Family, Country and Traditional American Values in Today's America?
by Frank A. Lancione
If MSNBC and CNN Reflect Your World View, Put This Book Down and Walk Away Now! This Book is Not for You!
When you hear the word rebel, you hardly associate it with some quiet church-going person who loves their country and family, believes merit and hard work should be the basis for advancement, believes in equality under the law, and that biology defines gender. To the extreme woke Left, however, this is the profile of an anti-social hate speech terrorist who must be cancelled, censored, and eradicated at all costs.
If you’re tired of the Left’s campaign to stamp out the values that made America great, this is the book for you. It’s essays and poems celebrate all that is right with America and all that's wrong with the agenda of the extreme woke Left.

Our 10,000 Mile RV Quest to Discover the Soul of Our Country
by Frank A. Lancione
Tired of all the endless division, culture wars, and political wrangling that seems to characterize current American culture? What if you could rise above it? What if there was something bigger, purer, and more important in life than the nightly partisan mud fights broadcast on cable TV? SUNSET YEARS: LOOKING FOR AMERICA is the positive, uplifting story about our country you’ve been looking for.
In the summer of 2021, my wife, Diane, and I crisscrossed America in a recreational vehicle (RV). In three months, we covered 10,000 miles. For us this was the road trip of a lifetime. It’s not that a trip like this has never been done. It’s that an exploration journey like this is a major challenge whenever it is successfully undertaken. It becomes more than just a physical journey. It becomes a personal journey of spiritual self-discovery too.
Meeting the everyday people who populate our great country, experiencing first-hand the vast, timeless, grandeur of the land itself changed our understanding of what the true soul – the vital essence – of America and American culture is about. Jump up into the cab of our RV and ride along with us on this journey through this true-life memoir of our trip. Be careful though. This trip might just change your life. It did ours!
Buy LOOKING FOR AMERICA. Read it. Give it to someone you care about. It’s the perfect antidote to the non-stop political rancor and division that sadly has come to characterize so much of our contemporary American culture and lifestyle today.
SUNSET YEARS: You're Still The One
SUNSET YEARS: You're Still The One
Poems for Seniors Who Still Love Each Other
by Frank A. Lancione
American culture worships youth and treats getting older as an embarrassing time of decline Given this bleak picture, it’s not surprising that many consider “senior love” an oxymoron. If you feel that way, get ready to have your stereotypes exploded!
The SUNSET YEARS SERIES is the reinvention of aging for the twenty-first century. SUNSET YEARS: YOU'RE STILL THE ONE celebrates the loving relationship all of us dream of - friendship, commitment, romance and passion. More importantly, it's the story of experiencing this kind of love even in your sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond.
SUNSET YEARS: YOU'RE STILL THE ONE is a model for living and loving that applies regardless of your age or life stage. Buy it. Read it. Use it to tell your partner how much you love them and how lucky you are to have them in your life! It’s the perfect gift to say “I love you and always will” to your partner on holidays, anniversaries, or any time you want them to know they’re still the one!
From the time we’re little we are told to “act your age!” Well, what does it mean to act your age when you are in your sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond?
If you think your final phase of life – your sunset years - are doomed to be a slow slide into mental, physical and social decline, author Frank A. Lancione says: “Think Again!”
The poems and stories in SUNSET YEARS: LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE illustrate what it looks like when you “never stop striving, never stop dreaming, never stop achieving” even in the last phase of your life. It’s the story of old age reinvented for the 21st century.
If you’re not living as though great opportunities, relationships, and experiences still lie ahead for you, maybe it’s time to read LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE FOR REST OF YOUR LIFE and start rethinking what it means to “act your age!”
Words you never want to hear:
“We’ve reviewed your tests and I’m sorry to tell you this, but they show you have cancer. We will need further testing to determine how advanced it is and how best we might treat it.”
Life has changed, and will no longer be the same. Most of us who experience a cancer diagnosis are initially shocked, then experience a range of emotions.
This book includes my research as a cancer patient and cancer survivor. It provides the background knowledge that can give hope to cancer patients, and the rationale for being actively involved in all your treatment decisions.
Every cancer patient should understand these key points as they embark on their journey to be cancer-free.
A cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. You can be healed!• Don’t be rushed into a drug regimen until you have researched conventional and alternative treatment options and can make informed decisions about the treatments.• Be aware and prepared to meet resistance from your physician or oncologist (even from your family) if you choose to do other than what they recommend.• Ultimately, the decision should be yours. Remember, YOU are in control, so accept your journey to becoming cancer-free as a challenge.
As you venture forth, I wish you Godspeed.Austin Leahy
Growing up, Gerry Lentz was a Chechoslovakian farm boy who lived with his family, some 200 roosters and over 500 chickens on a 160-acre home place in northeastern Iowa. His mother, aunts, and sisters learned cooking from his grandmother and her old world heirloom recipes found in this book. The women cooked delectable meats and Czech pastries, jams, jellies, and much more. Gerry ate his way through childhood, and loved it all!
His tales are remembered from age four to fifteen in this coming-of-age memoir. Some tales are incredibly funny while others are downright unbelievable!
It takes guts and grit to grow up on a farm. The question becomes: Could YOU do it?

The chapters in this slim, 64-page book suggest and encourage ways to overcome the mental blocks and hurdles many women acquire as they take up golf or want to become more competitive in the sport.

"Stories of Intensive Care" is a series of 23 stories about real patients cared for in the intensive care unit. The author, a retired pulmonary (lung) physician, directed the Mt. Sinai Hospital of Cleveland’s Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) in the 1980s and 1990s. Each story highlights a medical challenge or ethical dilemma he encountered.
The first chapter gives an overview of intensive care rounds, how the MICU operates, and what happens, when, during MICU rounds, a patient's heart suddenly stops beating. Succeeding chapters are devoted to one or two patients and the challenges they present. Like Harold Switek, too ill to leave MICU, too psychotic to stay. And Willie the Yellow Man, whose love affair with alcohol exceeded anything you’ve ever seen. You’ll meet a young socialite hospitalized with rapid onset of total paralysis and wonder (as we did): will she ever hug her kids again? And another woman about to have her baby during a terrifying asthma attack. Then there’s the young accountant who slept in a coma—for six months! In “The Red Baron” D. Martin tells the strange saga of a man who claimed to be coughing up blood, only that wasn’t his real problem. Another patient, dubbed "The Wild Man," is deposited in the emergency department by a family member, who then disappears. The wild man is delirious, but why?
These and other patients profiled in the book are all real, with names and other identifying features changed as necessary. In answer to the question "Should a physician write about his or her patients?, Dr. Martin states:
“Emphatically, yes, if he or she is so inclined and provided that privacy is maintained. In a literary sense, doctors and
nurses are privileged. What we see in our daily jobs is more than enough to fill many interesting books. We just have to
find the time and inclination to tell others about what we do, and to make the work seem as interesting in print as it is in
real life.”

My Writing Life details my 40-year writing career, one that made me neither famous nor rich. It was also not my main job. I was a pulmonary medicine physician for nearly four decades in Cleveland, and most of my early books were medical-themed. Only near retirement did I delve into fiction.
This semi-autobiography chronicles the ups and downs of writing and publishing (or attempting to publish) twenty-seven books, covering both fiction and nonfiction. Several books have won writing awards with the Florida Writers Association.
Two features make this book stand out from the usual “I wrote this and that” autobiography. One is the profiling of two dozen famous writers, and their influence on my own writing career. Two is the effort, throughout the book, to offer useful advice to the beginning writer. All the specific recommendations are collected in an appendix.
Although My Writing Life is in chronologic order, I do recommend you scan the table of contents for the various subjects and profiled authors and skip around to areas of special interest.

Diversity All Around Us: Book One: The Personal Level of Inclusion In Our Schools
Diversity All Around Us: Book One: The Personal Level of Inclusion In Our Schools
by Susan O’Halloran
When in high school, Sue O’Halloran became involved in a youth Civil Rights group where she was trained by adults who were working with Dr. Martin Luther King. Ever since, she has believed that young people can have a profound influence on creating a world that works for everyone. In Go Ahead. Make It Personal (the first book in a three-part series Diversity Is All Around Us In Our Schools – Isn’t It Time We Got It Right?) Sue illustrates to students (and to the adults who care about them) what each of us can do to make our schools even more welcoming and inclusive.
“A trip around the world! The cultural examples were clear, insightful and entertaining.” “I was making cultural mistakes without even knowing it. This book made me more aware and more relaxed at the same time.” “Practical – I could immediately put the ideas into action.” You don’t have to leave home to be the “ugly American.” All the world’s cultures are right where you are. Good intentions are not enough. What you are doing or saying may be causing more trouble than you know. In The Smooth Traveler: Avoiding Cross-Cultural Mistakes at Home and Abroad, Sue O'Halloran gives you greater awareness of the type and variety of cultures you may encounter when you travel as well as in your own workplace, community and even with the people you love. Plus you'll develop skill in negotiating those differences and in repairing relationships if conflicts occur.

Discover how people lived in the 17th and 18th century in their own words courtesy of D. Charles Petersen. Wanting to prove his mother’s statement that a Massachusetts property had been in their family for centuries, he decided to find out for himself. His catalyst was an old trunk stored in their Massachusetts family home known as the Red House. The trunk held letters, photos, ledgers, and other items dating back centuries. Within those documents, he found the fascinating story of his ancestry and the answer to his mother’s words.
Through the letters, he came to know the stories of his ancestors and their lives dating back to 1600. Some letters described daily life long ago. Read them yourself and understand how life courses through history like a river, at times combining families through marriages like tributaries, and flowing through centuries to this modern day.
Enjoy this fascinating revelation of stories from people in the past through Letters From the Old Trunk.
The origin of the historic Biddle House in Tottenville, Staten Island, goes back over 175 years. Built in the 1840s it was purchased by A. Charles Petersen and his wife, Katherine, in 1943. It stayed in the family for over five decades until it became part of the New York City park system.
Today, it is a museum and headquarters for the Tottenville Historical Society. But in the 1940s and 1950s, it was simply "home" to the author who grew up there. It is where he played, explored, and roamed in the woods.
This is the story of Chuck Petersen growing up in the historic Biddle House and finding all its hidden nooks and crannies.
Chuck Petersen began running in the late 1970s and has since logged in over 100,000 miles on the roads and trails while also completing fifty-seven marathons, twelve 100-mile trail races, and over 100 races of marathon distance, or longer, to date.
Although he still competes in several trail-ultras each year in his mid-eighties, his main objective now is just to finish any race before they run out of hamburgers they give out at the end.
He also bikes daily and enjoys doing volunteer trail maintenance at local state parks, as well as completing a round or two of golf each week.
This is an inspiring tale, Chuck maintains that keeping active, especially in older years, and running just for the health of it has made a positive impact on his life. He includes stories of happenings along the marathon trails, his eating patterns, and a few healthy recipes from his wife, Carole, a true partner in life.
Throughout history, people have reported spiritual experiences that we now identify as out-of-body experiences or OBEs. In recent times, modern researchers like Robert Monroe have pioneered the scientific study and practice of OBEs. Increasingly, people are remembering spontaneous OBEs, especially from early childhood. Also, OBEs are a typical feature of near-death experiences and have been described as beautiful, painless, and ecstatic.
This is the comprehensive manual for inducing out of body experiences and managing the experience. Peterson not only explores the stages of his own development, but also concludes each chapter with a specific exercise that takes you to the next level.
From wiggling out of your body for the first time (the author did a back flip his first time) to traveling through other realms and dealing with your "encounters,", this is one of the most practical, step-by-step guides to OBEs available. He clearly demonstrates how this consciousness-expanding experience is accessible to anyone willing to make the leap into the great beyond.
This is the ultimate manual on how to leave home alone....
In his first and now classic book, Out-of-Body Experiences: How to Have Them and What to Expect, Robert Peterson taught us the mechanics of out-of-body travel. In Lessons Out of the Body, he describes how we can benefit from those experiences.
According to Peterson, who has been an avid out-of-body traveler for more than 20 years, OBEs help us learn important spiritual lessons and achieve greater happiness and self-awareness. They do so by allowing us to experience life from a unique, nonphysical perspective. To prove his point, he provides personal examples of what OBEs have taught him about love, dying, and even finding his soulmate. After explaining how OBEs differ from alien abductions, lucid dreams, and near-death experiences, Peterson teaches us to embark on out-of-body travels with a deeper purpose--that of learning, growing, and adventuring on a spiritual, as well as a physical, level. Finally, he includes tips for inducing OBEs, a troubleshooting guide, and a question-and-answer section.

How to use your inner voice for wisdom, spirituality and psychic awareness
by Robert Peterson
Many spiritual traditions claim "the answers lie within" but few actually teach how to get those answers. This is not a book about meditation, nor an inspirational book. Answers Within is a step-by-step systematic approach to tapping your inner voice, an unlimited source of wisdom, direction, spirituality and psychic awareness.
Where do we go when we die? Everything we know about the afterlife is based on someone else’s spiritual experiences: near-death experiences (NDEs) and out-of-body experiences (OBEs) aka astral projection.
Most of the information has been distorted by religious agendas, centuries of time, ancient language misinterpretations, cultural differences, and just plain lack of words for what really happened. Wouldn’t it be great if you could get your own answers without coming close to death? Now you can.
This book will teach you how to temporarily exit your physical body and explore the world beyond. Many books claim to teach you how to induce OBEs, but fail to deliver. Most sell you superstitious nonsense, occult rituals, or new-age mumbo-jumbo. Even the best seem to parrot the same stale techniques that don’t work, and usually without any explanation of how they’re supposed to work.
This book is different. Hacking the Out of Body Experience is the best and most complete collection of no-nonsense techniques to induce OBEs. There is no cruft. It’s one hundred percent OBE techniques, based on Peterson’s 40 years of first-hand experience, solid principles of neuroscience, bio-hacking, and information gleaned from all the experts in the field. Best of all, each technique contains a detailed explanation of the principles behind it and how it works.
Bill Pullen is a brilliant storyteller. Whether it’s his childhood encounter with a V1 flying bomb, a renegade monkey in Suriname, the time he had to fire George Carlin, or one of his many other recollections, you will feel as though you were right there when the action happened.
His story begins with heartwarming memories of his early years on the outskirts of London during World War II. Following his first job as a bartender at The Savoy Hotel in London, he accepted a one-year assignment at the Hotel Plaza Athénée in Paris. While there a chance meeting with an American financier led to a once-in-a-lifetime job offer and his eventual emigration to the United States. From historic country inns to five-star hotels on three continents, he shares anecdotes of his experiences with friends, family, and a myriad of celebrities whom he met along the way.
All done with great humor and insight. Life goes on after retirement. In the final two chapters, Bill relates the importance of community involvement and the highly emotional connection he made while in Sri Lanka. That experience culminated in the creation of a foundation supporting some of that island’s poorest children and what became his lifetime passion and mission.

Jane Masterson was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1997. Jane and her 25-year partner, Edmund H. Smith, Jr., have not let this disease stop them from enjoying life. They have learned how to cope and how to thrive.
Five years ago, Ed and Jane were asked by a Parkinson’s disease support group to share what they had learned about coping with the challenges of everyday life. Their one-hour presentation, “Ideas for Living Well with Parkinson’s Disease,” proved an instant success. Since then, they have been frequent speakers at support groups in Florida, Tennessee, and also on cruise ships. Audiences number from a few to well over one hundred. Many attendees recommended they write a book so more people might benefit from their knowledge.
In this book, Jane and Ed offer the benefit of their experience. They tell how they have learned to successfully coexist with Parkinson’s disease. The written message is enhanced with more than thirty-five photographs of things they find beneficial in their everyday life. Twenty-five Internet links are included as sources for additional information.

We all have a story. We live it in bits and pieces each day. If we keep it to ourselves, it dies with us. Life’s lessons are too important to let that happen. If these stories remind you of yours, please share them with those you love.

Some of the poems will tickle your funny bone while others will strike a tender chord on your heart strings. The hand of God will reach out to you with poems of a spiritual nature providing true inspiration for life and happiness. As you read the poems, you will laugh, cry, meditate and reflect on choices and dilemmas you face. Anxious thoughts will float away as you learn to find inner peace and tranquility. Hopefully, by the end of the book, you will look in the mirror and see a bright new day with all the best things life has to offer.
