In the end, how will it all end? 

“From the River to the Sea” is a novel centered on a fictional elite university campus outside Chicago. It takes place in the year before the Hamas massacre of Israelis on October 7, 2023.

The protagonists are college students affected by the campus BDS movement (boycott, divestment, sanctions of Israel). Some are supportive and others are in strong opposition. Through dialogue, much background information about the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict is presented.

The two main characters are senior David Applebaum and Freshman Rebecca Goldman. David wants Rebecca in his bed. Initially, she says no. Repeatedly. But then something bad happens, and she reconsiders. Other characters include Michael Solomon, a Jewish convert to the Baháʼí faith, Gordon Geddy, the local BDS club leader, and a history professor who has a new book to explain the anti-Semitism on college campuses.

Early in the novel two FBI agents pay a visit to the school president’s office. They relay concern about a possible terrorist attack on campus. Is BDS involved? Possibly.

After their infamous 'March to the Sea', General William Tecumseh Sherman and his 62,000 man army occupied Savannah during December 1864 - January 1865. Sherman took as his army headquarters the mansion of Englishman Charles Green on Madison Square. Against this historical backdrop the novel introduces a young war widow, Belle Anderson, who becomes the general's willing mistress. She discovers true sexual freedom and something else -- a bordello operator who stalks her at night and threatens to expose the affair. "Sherman's Mistress" interweaves the fictional story with many historical characters of the period, including Secretary of War Edwin Stanton, Savannah Mayor Richard Arnold, diarist Fanny Yates Cohen, blockade runner Gazaway Lamar, Major Henry Hitchcock, and Union Generals John Geary and Jefferson C. Davis.

American Embassy Security Officer Brooks Keller and Marine Gunnery Sergeant Todd Walker are on assignment in the South of France. Keller and the gunny are part of a team providing support to the U.
